Oliver Twinst
The novel tells the story of Oliver Twist, an orphaned boy born into the brutal conditions of a 19th-century English workhouse. After daring to ask for more food, Oliver is sold into harsh apprenticeship before escaping to the grim streets of London. There, he is tricked into joining a gang of juvenile pickpockets led by the notorious criminal, Fagin, and the clever thief, The Artful Dodger.
Oliver is pulled into a violent underworld dominated by the sadistic thief, Bill Sikes, and his conflicted mistress, Nancy. Despite the immense moral and physical hardships he endures, Oliver retains his inherent innocence. His life becomes a battleground between the forces of good (represented by the wealthy benefactor, Mr. Brownlow) and the criminal underworld. The novel serves as a fierce social commentary exposing the cruelty of the Victorian Poor Laws and the pervasive poverty of the era, leading to Oliver's eventual rescue and discovery of his true parentage.
