Trading Up
Trading Up is a sharp social satire that follows the adventures of Janey Wilcox, a beautiful lingerie model (first introduced in Bushnell's previous work, Four Blondes). Janey is intensely ambitious and determined to climb to the top of Manhattan's elite social and financial ladder, regardless of the cost.
The novel chronicles Janey's relentless pursuit of wealth, power, and status. She utilizes her looks and charm to navigate a world of media moguls, powerful CEOs, and hunky polo players, eventually seeking a marriage purely for financial security and social leverage. As she successfully "trades up" her romantic and social standing, unseen forces conspire to expose her morally dubious past and true intentions. The story provides a biting, often cynical, look at a world defined by superficiality, wealth, and a severe lack of moral grounding.
