The Prince and The Pauper

Mark Twain - Personal Name;

The Prince and The Pauper is a historical adventure set in 16th-century London. It tells the story of two identical boys born on the same day: Prince Edward Tudor, the heir to the English throne, and Tom Canty, a poor beggar from the London slums. After a chance meeting, the boys, fascinated by each other's lives, exchange clothes and identities.

The novel follows their simultaneous but vastly different experiences: Edward, dressed in rags, is cast out of the palace and is subjected to the brutal poverty and harsh laws faced by commoners. Meanwhile, Tom, mistaken for the true Prince, struggles to maintain the deception amidst the rigid, baffling customs of the royal court. Edward's time among the poor teaches him profound lessons about justice and empathy, experiences that shape his reign when he finally regains his rightful place on the day of his coronation.
