The Moonstone

Wilkie Collins - Personal Name;

"The Moonstone" is an adaptation of the classic 19th-century novel often regarded as the first modern detective story, specifically leveled for high-intermediate English language learners. The plot centers on a magnificent and cursed yellow diamond, the Moonstone which is stolen from an Indian temple and later gifted to Rachel Verinder on her eighteenth birthday. When the diamond goes missing from Rachel’s home that same night, a complex investigation follows, involving a diverse cast of characters, suspicious movements, and deep-seated secrets. This Level Three reader introduces students to the foundations of mystery fiction while helping them navigate multiple narrative perspectives and rich descriptive vocabulary.
